# Client group summary

## Why this matters

Client groups hold cohorts of clients, such as a programme intake or a recall list. The Client
Group Summary lists who is in each group, how to reach them and when they joined. You can use it as
a register, or to check a group before messaging it.

## Options

| Option | Choices |
|---|---|
| Formats | View, CSV, PDF |
| Dates | None: the report shows group membership as it is now |
| Filters | **Groups**; **Exclude archived clients** (the default), **Include archived clients** or **Only include archived clients** |
{.table}

See [Running Reports](/docs/reporting/running-reports/) for the steps.

## What it contains

The report opens under the title **Group List**, then a **Group Breakdown** with a section for each
group:

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Client | The client's name, and the date they were archived if they have been |
| Contact Details | Mobile, phone and email |
| Date Joined | When the client was added to the group |
{.table}

Each group ends with a total row giving the number of clients.

The CSV file has one row per client in each group, starting with the columns **Group**, **Group
Total**, **First Name**, **Last Name** and **Date Joined**.

## What to watch for

**A group called "No Assignment" appears**
When you run the report without choosing any groups, it adds a **No Assignment** section. This lists
clients who aren't in any group.

**A client appears more than once**
A client in several groups is listed under each one.

**Waiting lists aren't in the Groups filter**
The **Groups** filter lists client groups only. For waiting lists, use the
[Breach Alert](/docs/reporting/breach-alert/) report.
