# Breach rate

## Why this matters

The Breach Rate shows how well each list met its targets over the last year: of the clients whose
target date fell in that time, how many were not given a date before it passed. Splitting it by
priority shows whether urgent clients are being protected at the expense of routine ones, or the
other way round.

## Before you start

Targets are set on each list. See [Breach Dates and Targets](/docs/waiting-lists/breach-dates-and-targets/).

## Options

| Option | Choices |
|---|---|
| Formats | View, CSV, PDF |
| Dates | None to set: the report always covers the last 12 months, from this day last year to the end of today |
| Filters | **Users** (the users assigned to the entry), **Waiting Lists**, **Status**, **Priority**, **Locations** |
{.table}

See [Running Reports](/docs/reporting/running-reports/) for the steps.

## What it contains

The report includes every entry whose target date falls in the period. An entry counts as breached
when its target date passed before its TCI date, or passed with no TCI date set.

One row per waiting list, with an **All Lists** total row:

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| List | The waiting list |
| Total | Entries with a target date in the period |
| Breached | How many of them breached |
| Rate % | Breached as a percentage of Total, to two decimal places |
| Urgent, Soon, Routine | **Total** and **Breached** for each priority |
{.table}

Lists with any breaches are highlighted in red.

The CSV file has the columns **From**, **To**, **List**, **Total**, **Breached**, **Rate %**,
**Urgent Total**, **Urgent Breached**, **Soon Total**, **Soon Breached**, **Routine Total** and
**Routine Breached**.

## What to watch for

**Removed clients count as breached**
If **Status** is left empty, every entry is included, whatever its status. A client removed
without a TCI date, after their target date had passed, counts as a breach. Select the statuses you
want to measure in **Status**.

**A suspended client counts as breached**
The breach is measured against the target date before any suspension is added. A client whose
breach date was moved later by a suspension can still count as breached here.

**The period can't be changed**
Waiting list reports have no date fields, so this report always covers the last 12 months.

**Entries are missing, including every unassigned entry**
Unless you have **Can view All Appointments**, the report only includes entries with an assigned
user. See [Running Reports](/docs/reporting/running-reports/#before-you-start).
